Accessories: 2" Extensions These 2" Extensions fit into either a focuser tube or a 2" diagonal. The barrel has a safety cut to capture the extension and prevent it from falling out. The accessory end of the Extension has a brass compression ring to securely hold 2" accessories with marring the finish of the barrel. One use for these Extensions is for star testing a refractor without a diagonal. With the Extension focus can be reached with almost the same focuser tube travel as when the diagonal is used. Another use for Extensions is for refractors that have shortened tubes to accomodate a binoviewer. When viewing without a binoviewer, the optical path can be lengthened to make up for the path normally used by the missing binoviewer. Still another use for Extensions is to allow a spotting scope to reach focus when viewing close objects. The eyepiece must be moved further away from the objective when viewing closer objects. For nature viewing, the short exention will allow most telescopes to reach focus at very close distances. For example, the short Extension with the Burgess Optical 102f6 allows viewing objects as close as 15 feet from the telescope. The long Extension adds 3-3/16 (80mm) to the focal path. The shorter Extension Tube adds 1-15/16" (49mm - nominal 50mm) to the focal path. Both Extensions have an internal stop inside for catching the edge of the accessory barrel inserted into the Extension. The 80mm Extension has a slightly tapered inside bore, but eyepiece and diagonal barrels fit easily in the Extension. |
